Chimayo Weaving.
The Hispanic residents of Chimayo, in Northern New Mexico have been weaving blankets and other textiles since the early
1700’s. In the late 1800’s Chimayo textiles became popular with
newcomers to New Mexico and visitors to the area. To accommodate the demand for their textiles, Chimayo designs began to tum out blankets with modern patterns on their century old
looms. Hispanic and Native /American design were incorporated in their textiles to create a style which blended both cultures . Their beautifully crafted weavings continue to be
popular today.
